Project 1 – Application of Building Services 

This project is related to the students’ studio design project that done in semester 2, the retreat house. Students are required to demonstrate their understanding of building services by proposing  the most appropriate and suitable systems for the building which include electrical supply system, cold water and hot water supply system, sewerage and sanitary system and drainage system. In order to understand the building service, we need to produce drawings and diagrams which include specifications, symbols, legends, images, texts, and others that describes the planning and installation of all the building services in the retreat house. In addition, we  may also include specific clauses from the Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) or other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines which relate to the proposed systems into the presentation boards for better understanding how the system work and requirement during the installation. Through this project, I have learnt about the relevant information related to water supply, liquid waste disposal, mechanical air-conditioning, fire safety and vertical transportation system and how to plan a building services within the total design and construction process.

Project 2 - Case Study and Documentation of Building Services Systems 

Each group with 6 members is required to choose a building of 5-storey high which can be either public or commercial buildings as a case study for this project.We need to perform a study analysis of the following services systems involved in the building which are mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning system, fire protection system and mechanical transportation system. Those findings need to be document accordingly by each of the member. The aim of this assignment is to give a clearer understanding on what students learnt during the class about each of the systems that they have observed in the building. We have sent a lot request on several building but at last we went to visit the Mercedes Autohaus Showroom in Balakong under the guidance from Mr.Ng, one of the architect from Asima Architect Firm. We appreciated on his kindness and detailed explanation on the system that used in the site building.
