Project 1: FURNITURE FOR AN ELDERLY

In this project, we decided to visit an elderly center and identify one of the elderly to be our project client for investigation to understand her specific needs and attributes which influences in the furniture design. In a group of 2, we need to produce an illustrated report of their findings for further development through the furniture and also a design proposal to be present to our tutor to get more comments related to this assignment to produce a good furniture to our user. Through this project, we could design and create architectural spaces with consideration of environmental poetics in relation to the basic natural context and existing built context which impact on users’ experiences.

Picture above shows the elderly home center that we have visited in Kuala Lumpur. We have discovered the specific needs for an elderly through the environment of the house.

Those elderly are our client for this assignment and we do understand the requirement that she wanted us to include into the furniture. We also noted down the analysis and information when interviewing her.

We have developed from a swing chair to a folding chair as swing chair is not a specific needs for the client but the needs that could help the user during walking. Our client is not staying at there, thus she need to move more compared others. Chair that could folded up to bring anywhere make her more convenient.

This is the finalist of design furniture model through the precedent studies from traditional paper cut and the walker.

Picture above shows the A1 board that we have presented during the final. LINFOLD is our furniture name that based on the surname of the client with the specialty of chair which can fold up.

Great partner as this project and hope we could work together again!

Project 2: CENTER FOR THE ELDERLY

In final individual project, we decided to design of an elderly center in a suburban area with some complexity that includes the complexity of site topography and vegetation and socio-cultural events. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with nature and the site, and provide the best of experiences for the users. Through the visit to elderly home center in project 1, we have understand the requirement and specific needs for an elderly in a home center that could helps us in developing a good home elderly center to the users. From the learning outcome to this project, we could apply the ideas of environmental sustainability and combine the environmental needs, the site, and the users’ experiences within in our building design through the suburban environment. Our site is located in the nearby Taylor's University which is at the PJS 7 with the Indian and Chinese temples.

Through the investigation from precedent studies and idea development creates the presentation board of my design that based on the concept Exposure which is related to the perception of elderly when they first come to a new home. Using some opening and different degree of exposure to emphasize on this design building based on different spaces.

Model development till to the sectional model 1:100 and a overall massing 1:200
