In this project, we decided to work in a group to carry out the site study under guidance of our respective tutor.The Preliminary Studies consist of two components which are the urban study through site documentation and
analysis, and Precedent Studies of Urban Infills and Community Library. The urban study will allow students to get understand with the site they will be working with this whole semester, while the
Precedent Studies will provide an initial understanding idea into the architectural responses for designing an urban infill
community library in the selected site. The outcome of the Preliminary Studies will include the production of site
documentation materials (drawings and models in both digital and physical copy for further use), a
comprehensive analysis of the site, and a detailed case study of a relevant urban infill and community
library.
The findings from the urban study should be of:
a) What are the patterns on legibility in the existing urban fabric?
b) What are the characteristics that could offer legibility in the proposed community library?
c) What are the urban issues pertaining to the context?
d) Key ideas and themes to be discussed in relation to the analysis include: Legibility, Way-finding (5 Lynchian Principles), Typology and Morphology, Figure/Ground Mapping, Patterns of Movement and Use, Human Behavior, Street Culture
I get to learnt on how to conduct case studies and site analysis to generate an understanding of the physical and
cultural context and development of urban environments by working in a big group. I have also learnt to determine the role of a community library in a contemporary urban setting while produce documentation where to record and communicate site analysis findings, and for further use and better understanding in
the coming design stages.

Project 2 Community Library (Individual)
In this project, we decided to develop the idea of community library by narrowing down to a specific
community from your urban analysis of project 1 which the community could mean to be the people sharing the urban location,same context and similar interests that could find possibilities idea from there for a library to that community. The
new community library will be a vibrant and interesting place for the whole community, welcoming people of
all ages and all backgrounds. The role of the library as a focus for community interaction. It will be also a focus
for a variety of cultural, learning and recreational opportunities in a community. I have take concern on the older community which is in retired age majority with sub group of youth community to interact each other in a place. The theme of the community library is based on a Chinese tea house that provide a calm and comfortable environment to people.
I have learnt from this project in producing a design outcome for a community library that is site-specific through its formal, cultural,
legislative, structural and environmental design responses.
